The City of Norfolk
Municipal Internship Program is a highly
competitive program designed to enhance students’ professional
and interpersonal skills, introduce talented college students to
careers in local government, and provide valuable work
experience. Norfolk
also offers several training and development opportunities for
interns.
Norfolk
interns work eight weeks, 40 hours per week, beginning in June.Undergraduate students earn $8.50 per hour and graduate
students earn $10.65 per hour. Norfolk offers a variety of intern
assignments. Student interns have worked in the following city
departments:
Public
Health
Human
Resources
Norfolk
Police Department
Office
of the City Auditor
Information Technology
Finance
Neighborhood Preservation
Budget
Mayor’s

Recreation, Parks, Open Space

Requirements:
College junior or above
Good academic standing
Currently attending college
Working in a course of study relevant for the intern position
Preference will be given to Norfolk residents
