Fire Works Permit

Fireworks of any kind are ILLEGAL to use, posses, or sell within the City of Norfolk.  This includes sparklers.  (See Norfolk City Ordinance  17.1-44 #25).  Fireworks are extremely dangerous and every year there are several deaths and serious injuries that are directly caused by the use of fireworks.  According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in 2007 there were 11 deaths, and over 9,800 injuries caused by fireworks.  The leading cause of injury involved the use of sparklers.

The only legal firework displays offered in the City of Norfolk are produced by certified, bonded, and insured pyrotechnic companies.  These companies are required to get a Fire Works Permit from the Norfolk Fire Marshals Office.  The transportation, security, loading, and the shooting of these fireworks are all closely regulated, and monitored by the Fire Marshals.

Duties: An Inspection will be at a test firing, and at the performance he (she) will be in attendance unless the fireworks will be done for more than one performance, a firefighter will be in attendance.

Length of Permit: The performance date(s) given at the time the permit is issued to the company.

Cost: $50.00
