As hurricane season continues, restock your emergency kit with a fresh water supply.
As we get further along into the hurricane season, it’s time for residents to review their hurricane plans and their emergency supply kits. Having a ready supply of fresh water is essential when planning ahead. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recommends that your kit include a three-day supply of drinking water, that’s one gallon of water, per person, per day.
Water can be stored safety in a cool, dark area for up to six-months. To keep a ready supply of water, you can store Norfolk Pure tap water in cleansed two-liter soda bottles or other types of clean and securely sealed containers. Milk jugs and cardboard juice cartons should not be used for storing water. Be sure to secure the cap tightly and date the bottle after filling. If the bottles have been stored long than six months, they should be emptied, cleaned and refilled with fresh tap water.
